The topics for each meeting are decided on the day and members come to the meeting with a possible topic in mind. No other preparation is necessary. Although the topics are serious, humour plays its part in making sure that we do not take ourselves too seriously.
The host acts as chairman, and it is the chairman of the day who decides which topics we discuss. The chairman’s role is to ensure that everyone has a chance to contribute, that no one hogs the meeting, to keep things moving and, if necessary, play devil’s advocate. All that a member of the group is required to do is bring with them their views on what is happening in the world. (But don’t expect everyone to agree!)
New members can join us from time to time, subject to the need to restrict the size of the group, not only because of the restraints of accommodation but also the need to ensure that everyone is able to have their say.
